ABOUT US
THE STORY OF JOYS GYMNASTICS
JOYS Gymnastics began more than 50 years ago as a program of the Michiana YMCA, led by our first – and still only – Head Coach, Mrs. Kathy Brothers. When it came time to choose a name for the program, she was inspired by the music our team practiced to, and “JOYS” was born from the uplifting notes of Ode to Joy.
Over the next four decades, JOYS grew into not only a thriving class program but also an award-winning competitive team. In 2012, the Michiana YMCA made the difficult decision to end its gymnastics program. For us – the parents of both class and team members – this was unthinkable. We knew how important an affordable gymnastics program was, not just for our children, but for the community.
We rallied. We wrote letters, met with leaders, reached out to local media, and asked our community to stand with us. The YMCA graciously agreed to let us continue using their facilities through that spring, giving us precious time to find a new home.
With determination, teamwork, and the unwavering support of our JOYS “family,” we overcame every challenge. Today, JOYS Gymnastics is not only back – we’re here to stay!
